It was a chance for the staff to take a breather from all things car-related and refuel themselves for a change. With 35 people expected, it was a smallish, laid-back gathering. But did that stop us from going big on the buffet? Absolutely not.
The client picked Hog Roast Cardiff’s much-loved Gourmet BBQ, and the line-up was a good one. There were Thai chicken kebabs, slow-roasted pulled pork and, naturally, our handmade British beef burgers, served hot off the grill with melting cheese and fried onions. Two meat-free options joined the party too, so the vegetarians and vegans weren’t left twiddling their thumbs.
The sides worked just as hard. We served homemade gourmet coleslaw, a pasta salad bursting with fresh veg, and a mix of sweet potato and classic fries with salt, vinegar and plenty of sauces. Fries, we’ve found, are the great equaliser of any office. I mean, who can stay grumpy with a chip in their hand?
The relaxed, communal feel was exactly what the client had been after. Colleagues who usually communicate through emails and the odd passing wave suddenly had a reason to stand around, load up their plates and actually talk to each other. By the end of the afternoon, the Volvo Cars Cardiff team were full, cheerful and more than ready to get back to driving sales and following up with customers.
