One of the very unique things about being a caterer of several decades is that in some instances you get to quite literally see customers grow up.
At Hog Roast Derbyshire we have a good few repeat customers that like to come back to us for various annual events. Things like birthdays, anniversaries, celebratory events where the same family and friendly faces are showing up. We’ve seen 40ths turn into 50ths, weddings turn into 5, 10, 15 year anniversaries. It is a huge part of what makes our job so enjoyable here at Hog Roast Derbyshire.
But one of our events this past week really showed some of our chefs and servers just how long we have been at this game. Exactly 21 years ago this past weekend the Hog Roast Derbyshire team were invited out cater for the celebration of a newborn baby. Peter, the dad, had gathered friends and family to celebrate his son’s birth, bringing in our catering to add to the occasion. Now, exactly 21 years on from that date, the Hog Roast Derbyshire team received a very special (if not somewhat peculiar for some of us older faces that still remember that event two decades ago) call to come and cater for Peter’s son’s 21st birthday party.
In this instance we have quite literally watched a customer grow up, now serving him as he heads right into adulthood. It’s quite hard to believe for some of us that still remember him as just a tiny newborn, but here we are serving our same hog roasts to someone that has had an entire lifetime since then. Odd, huh?
However it may make some of us feel about our own age, it was a real joy to join Peter’s family again for this special celebration. It felt like a real full circle moment on our end, and we have little doubt we’ll back again for more lifetime milestones with Peter and the Smith family in the future! Perhaps we’ll even get to see a whole new generation of Smiths that love hog roast catering just as much as the last!
