Good Afternoon Everyone

Thursday, November 1st, 2012

Halloween has passed us now and while we were out and about last night on the road heading to our jobs we saw lots of children trick or treating and you all looked very spooky!! I had quite a fright.

So the countdown to Christmas now begins J are you all excited??

We have had many inquiry’s this week for a Christmas Eve hog roast and our winter warmer menu is proving quite popular. It’s a really nice filling meal and I can assure it’ll tantalise your taste buds beyond expectation, just imagine been sat around a table all merry with your friends and family tucking into spit roasted turkey served with a delicious cranberry sauce, stuffing, vegetables oh and not forgetting the chefs own gravy.

So yesterday our Spitting Pig Kent team catered for a corporate event at Grand Central recording studio in London they all seemed to love the roasted pig and chicken with Yorkshire pudding, stuffing smothered in red wine gravy, we made Hungarian goulash for the vegetarian option! It was a fantastic Halloween event they had great music on and the costumes were fantastic. Such a wonderful evening! Maybe a few too many drinks where had by looking at the twitter feed this morning on twitter.

Today the weather is not so great it’s rather dull and the nights are becoming darker so the boys have been cleaning the machines from yesterday’s event making sure there ready to be loaded in the van for tomorrows jobs as we have two booked in one in the afternoon and the other is a late serve of around 9pm in Huddersfield.

This weekend just gone myself and another Spitting Pig chef catered for a large wedding in a converted barn just outside of Ripon. Even though the job was in a remote part of town we managed to show up 7 hours early to cook a spit roasted pig and a spit roasted lamb with canapés including handmade gourmet sausages, wild mushroom bouchees, satin chicken skewers, haloumi kebabs and a delightful smoked salmon on fresh brown bread. We served the spit roasted pig with fresh apple sauce and a sage and onion stuffing which we prepared ourselves not forgetting our perfect crispy crackling, and the lamb with fresh rosemary and mint sauce , we also served warm new potatoes in a herb butter, cauliflower cheese and a range of freshly prepared salads .  After the canapés and main meal we served a chocolate torte dessert with fresh raspberry’s and blueberry’s followed by tea and coffee. After a long day cooking everybody at the event commented on how good our service was and we even received a couple of bookings from the guests, the bride and groom said we did absolutely brilliant and it made there special day something to remember and would definitely recommend the Spitting Pig company to friends and family.

To book any type of event at any time of year in any location why not take a look at our online menu’s or speak to one of our friendly staff at the office, all the information you need is on our website.

Quarter Roast

Thursday, July 5th, 2012

Another great day for Andy Murray quarter-finals through and looking forward  to the semi’s. We where lucky to see the whole match late into the evening on a giant screen set up by one of our cooperate customers so their staff could get into the Wimbledon mood. We cooked a whole pig for them on the spit and served it into a bun which they ate while sat around on the grass with a beer or glass of wine. Then in the break we served them all strawberries and cream to give it that real Wimbledon feel. You would have thought you where on centre court not a garden in Dudley west Midlands a great time was had by all and we are hoping for a repeat booking for the semi final match.  All in all a wonderful day for all to remember.

The spitting pig make the best of best meats when it comes to our cook out, which will tickle your taste buds and will fill your wildest imaginations of what food should taste like.  The food once ready comes out quickly and efficiently with a smile from our amazing service team, so you don’t to worry about getting back to watch the next serve.

Summer Fairs!

Picture the scene….a balmy summer’s day, the sun beating down on a huge field scattered with stalls, children running around, a band playing in the background and a flurry of activity as everyone mills around the gazebos and checks out the competition for the funniest shaped vegetables. It’s a summer gala! We all love them, and every year it’s traditional for local towns and villages to set out to entertain and bring everyone together, children and adults alike for a summer celebration.

Often there’s fairgrounds with loud music booming out and candyfloss for the kids. After riding the walzer for a while, some might have a slightly wobbly tummy, but for the cast iron stomachs amongst us who still have an appetite there’s always the Spitting Pig!

We think that our hog roasts are perfect for these ocassions. Nothing looks more mouthwatering than freshly roasted pork, cooked right in front of you by professional, friendly staff. Even if the weather doesn’t co-operate and the heavens open, we can make the best of things and ensure you still get hot, tasty, melt in the mouth food. It looks so impressive too, a full pig roasted on a turning spit is a real spectacle compared to the usual scattering of burger vans.

The Spitting Pig often caters for large numbers of hungry people and we have perfected the art of cooking, carving and getting food on plates in as quick a time as possible. No-one likes standing in a queue for hours, so we do our best to make sure you’re served your food quickly and efficiently. We look after our customers too, and if the sun shines there’s a gazebo to keep you cool, and if the rain pours this offers shelter and a place to sit and socialize.

So if you’re wanting a hang out area for the foodies at your summer fete, gala or garden party, why not consider the Spitting Pig? We will be more than happy to cater for your guests, no matter how many people you are expecting. Our experience and expertise means that we are more than capable of catering for hundreds of people or even just a handful, all you have to do is ring us for a quote and give us some idea of what you would like to organise and we will do the rest!

Catering at the Weekend

Wow, that certainly was an exciting weekend, I was working on two events this weekend one for a small private party on the Saturday for a hog roast in Cardiff and the other a corporate event on the Sunday for a hog roast in Oxford. Both events went fantastically well and luckily because of the crazy weather that swept the country this weekend they were both indoors. We arrived on site Saturday morning very early; we didn’t need to travel far but after checking the weather we decided better to be safe than sorry. The team and I set up at the venue and erected a gazebo just outside the hall we were serving to cook the free range lamb. That’s what a lot of people don’t realise about Spitting Pig, sure we cook amazing hog roasts but we also offer a vast array of other meat options and we always prepared something fresh for our vegetarian guests. We got the lamb underway and added some fresh rosemary and garlic to give it a bit more flavour. We then set about setting up the serving tables and preparing for the service. We were super ahead and we didn’t want to prepare the salads or bread too early as we always like everything to be as fresh as possible.
We service was great everyone commented on how great the lamb was with the mint sauce and we made sure that there was enough for seconds and even thirds in some cases. We tided everything away and left the guests to enjoy their evening entertainment. We were travelling down to oxford to liaise with another Spitting Pig team and complete a bigger event together. We have catering teams all over the country and we got some rest down at the Spitting Pig Central base. The Sunday went without a hitch and it wasn’t before long that we were on our way home safe in the knowledge that we had done a great job.

Installing the new phone lines

Firstly apologies to anyone who tried to call the office this morning between 10am – 12pm, unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control our phone lines were temporary down because of our move into the new office. But I’m delighted to say we are now in and am up and running. And what a step up it is. The offices look fantastic and the views into the countryside are incredible. Also don’t worry none of our emails were affected and Helen is busy sending out all your catering enquiries as I type. Another successful week with regards to Catering, four big events on over this weekend all went fantastically well and it’s nice to see a few emails thanking us for our work. We have quite a few jobs booked in for this week including a hog roast for a birthday in Kent which looks fantastic, we are providing the full catering service, canapés, starter, main course and deserts for just over 100 people. Apparently there are plans for a live band, ice bar, and chocolate fountain which sounds great. 3 of our finest chefs will be on hand all day with their serving team, and hopefully I’ll get the chance to go down and take a few video to put up on our website. I’ll be back after the weekend to let you know how it all went.

Have a great weekend
