Busy times for hog roast catering team.

Monday, July 19th, 2010

Spitting Pig head office has been busier than ever in the last few weeks.  We have recently moved premises into new larger offices and since we arrived it’s been non stop!

The enquiries have been coming in thick and fast as people are planning future events and wanting to use spitting pig for their catering needs.  Most of our enquiries tend to be for the summer or later on in the year but we have started to receive a number of phone call and emails from prospective clients who are planning their celebrations for 2011 and even 2012.  A lady booked with us this week for a Christmas party she is holding in December 2012 now that is planning ahead!

We have also had some new additions to the spitting pig team in the last few weeks.   We now have spitting pig depots in new areas including Spitting Pig Wirral and Spitting Pig Wales.  Every catering team that joins the Spitting Pig Company is experienced and trained to the highest standards ensuring that all our customers receive quality food and excellent service.

The summer months are always busy in the catering industry as this is when “wedding season” begins and this year is no exception.  We have many weddings booked in for 2010.  If you or someone you know is planning a wedding this year than take a look at our popular wedding menus.  We have a range of different menus to suit all budgets and tastes.  From the stylish and simple wedding menu which offers a traditional classic wedding breakfast with all the trimmings through to our lavish wedding menu six which is three course sit down feast followed by a luxurious evening buffet.

And of course this summer the other excuse to celebrate is the World cup.  We are holding lots of Hog roasts around the UK on the night of England’s first game.  We have been approached by many hotels and pubs who will be showing the match on their big screens and knowing its going to be one of their busiest nights of the year they want to give their customers something extra special and have decided to provide a tasty hog roast or BBQ to the hungry football fans as they enjoy England’ first game of the world cup 2010.

As well as planning the future events we have also been kept busy with the usual special occasions as well as celebrations over the easter weekend, the May day bank holiday weekend, St Georges Day and even election night kept us busy as we catered a lamb roast with all the trimming for a function hosted by a local MP on the big night.

So what with planning all the upcoming events and catering many others recently the whole spitting pig team has been working flat out around the clock.  Not that any of us is complaining though as it’s so great to know that business is doing so well and continuing to improve all the time.

A week in the life of the spitting pig team.

Monday has come round incredibly quickly and we have spent a lot of time in the office catching up with the weekend’s email enquiries and general admin work as well as being outside cleaning all the machines and associated equipment. It was a bitterly cold day and felt like November when being outside scouring and scrubbing is a pretty cold and miserable job! Anyway one request over the weekend is for us to provide a bbq in a shopping centre with a demonstration. Who ever said the job of a pig roaster is repetitive we spend our time rising to new and exciting challenges!

A busy bank holiday weekend despite the awful weather on Saturday. A team from Spitting Pig  came back very wet from a wedding despite having been under a gazebo for the evening. It’s the loading it all back up into the van that does it! The constant heavy drizzle soon seeps through your clothes making for a very steamy atmosphere in the van on the way back to the depot!

Sunday however dawned bright and sunny and a fresh and dry team journeyed to Putney and served spit roasted pig at an event for 350 people. The pig was juicy and the crackling crunchy, the apple sauce and stuffing tasty and a good time was had by all. Another Spitting Pig Central chef made her way to Oxford and cooked a spit roasted lamb for a family get together in the garden.

It was also a busy weekend for hiring out machines for those wanting to undertake pig roasting themselves .One machine went to Sunbury on Thames with a further two being delivered to Worcester for a lamb roast for a wedding held at The Fold. Hiring a machine is a good value for money option and can be supplied with the meat of your choice. The machine comes fully supplied with gas and full instructions are given when we drop the machine with you. Rest assured it’s not rocket science!

Enquiries are coming in at a faster and faster pace during the summer months and June is pretty much fully booked. We still have some space in July but that is going fast so if you want a pig roast this summer please give us a ring so we don’t have to disappoint. Booking is simple with the minimum of paperwork and once a deposit is paid the date is yours.

Looking back over the weddings we have done already this year and the ones to come the most popular wedding reception drink is Pimms. This is such a perennial favourite and seems to convey all the wonderful things about a summer wedding.  All that  fruit, ice and sprigs of mint  served in a highball glass,  ladies in summer frocks and hats, freshly mown grass and a dashing groom and beautiful bride and of course sunshine. For an alternative to Pimms try this. Put a generous slosh of cointreau into a jug and top it up with half of lemonade and half of ginger beer, garnished with orange and fresh mint.  Delish!

On Saturday we had a small party with a pig roast and salads and potatoes. The meal was served at 6pm and the sky became a darker and darker grey and it became colder and colder. Luck was with the team and we managed to get all the food served before the heavens opened. Luckily we always bring a gazebo so we were able to pack up and get back to the yard without getting completely soaked.  The usual glorious bank holiday weather.

A weekend of weddings, all very different. An evening pig roast for 100 people at a large hotel in Surrey, a wedding with spit roasted lamb and pig in North London and a country wedding for 80 in the Chilterns with roasted chickens and a pig. Lots of yummy chocolate profiteroles and sticky toffee pudding. The weather was stunning for all three events and needless to say 3 beautiful brides. Another very successful day.

Another busy weekend for the team at Spitting Pig.  Claire went to Essex and served a pig roast for 120 people in a marquee for a 40th wedding anniversary with the rest of the food and the bar provided by a large London catering company. We are always happy to work with other caterers if requested and as such we can do as much or as little as our clients require.

Adrian went to Knowle on Saturday for a 30th birthday party. This was for a customer from last year   and it’s always lovely to be asked to go back again. In fact a lot of our business is from word of mouth recommendation which speaks for itself. The guests enjoyed a spit roasted pig with apple sauce, stuffing and succulent crispy crackling.

George had a busy day in London serving a hog roast with all the usual accompaniments to a party of 350 people. All went extremely well until the journey home when he had a puncture near Oxford and they were unable to shift the wheel nuts. Thankfully just minutes after the disaster an R.AC. patrolman just happened to be passing and managed to sort them out! Just shows what you can do with the correct equipment.

On Sunday Spitting Pig Central went to Buckingham for a party for a couple who were emigrating to Australia. 200 people turned up to say goodbye and enjoyed the spit roasted pig, salads and new potatoes served by the team. It was great fun with a bouncy castle for the children but obviously tinged with sadness at saying goodbye to so many friends and family. We wish you both well in your new life down under.

A hectic day today, catching up with all our office work and enquiries and getting ready for another busy weekend. There are machines to be delivered to Woburn tomorrow for hire, a visit to the cash and carry to be made and numerous other tasks. The glorious weather we enjoyed on Saturday has long since gone and we have unremitting drizzle which is good for the garden but not much fun for anything else. Hopefully it will cheer up before next weekend   and all the events booked for then.

The first van to depart from the depot on Saturday went to Beaconsfield for a lunch time party serving a spit roasted pig with the usual accompaniments of stuffing and apple sauce. Nearly a disaster as on arrival our chef discovered that the motor would not turn properly. Help was at hand however and a new motor was delivered to him within the hour. In the meantime he patiently turned the roasting pig by hand and lunch was served on time!
